Honestly fuck productivity
TBH we should all just be ~*vibing*~
We’re all taught to be as productive as possible and have good time management and multitasking skills and be the perfect mom have your kids eat vegetables at every meal and make sure you’re having enough sex with your spouse and work like you don’t have kids or dogs or other people to take care of and get your steps in and work out every day and make sure you also have time for your self-care and show up for every family event and be pleasant and polite and don’t be a tease but don’t be a slut but don’t lead them on and look young forever and don’t let yourself go after having a baby and enjoy every minute of motherhood because you only get 16 more summers with them and don’t be poor or an immigrant or take handouts (even though thats literally what taxes are, thats OUR fucking money but I digress…)
it’s been super hard unlearning productivity/hustle/grind culture simply because its fucking everywhere and youre lowkey shamed if you’re not “producing” and its like yeah I wanna make enough to live comfortably because i have to which is bullshit but i also don’t want to spend all of my time working and trying to live up to an idea of productivity that was forced on me.
I no longer want to be productive I want to vibe on the beach with my friends and eat snacks and read books and listen to music and sing together and go surfing and build sandcastles with my son who will never cry because hes always happy just vibing and take a nap in a hammock and then wake up and eat more delicious food and do crafts together and not worry about money or health insurance or rising “cost of living” (wtf) or global warming or active shooters or wars.
but Sarah, if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life!
As the wise Ava Daniels played by my girlfriend Hannah Einbinder said in Hacks season 5:
“I love that, but in general though, that phrase is kind of like a capitalist propaganda message to get people to self-identify with their labor output to amass more productive hours."
Why don’t we just all agree to quit the idea of work and labor and just like, vibe together, ya know??
